Today, I watched the second episode of the Korean fashion TV show: Style Log 2014 with Lee Kikwang (이기광) from B2ST, Huh Gayoon (허가윤) from 4Minute, and Do Sangwoo (도상우), a model/actor. And they introduced me to the concept of kinfolk lifestyle, which is basically a slow and simple lifestyle that cultivates community, allows you to spend more time with friends and family, and just enjoy the simple happy moments in life. Check out Kinfolk Magazine.
I have always been in love with this free lifestyle with its simple and pretty interior designs and flowy fashion style for quite some time I just never knew there was a name for it! I always thought it was the bohemian/hippie thing (LOL). This lifestyle has been in America for a quite some time now; however, it is a fairly new concept in Korea.
I personally think it’s great to want to live simply especially in this age where marketing, businesses, and society keep pushing us to want more, buy more, eat more, and do more at the expense of others. This constant and very loud noise of MORE comes at a very high cost: taking advantage of others especially the poor and even depriving the poor of basic necessities, and it can even hurt the people around us, friends and family, because we seek materialistic things more than the joy of being with people we love. Now, I am not saying any of this to point fingers or blame others because I am guilty of doing all of the above and falling, still falling for all of the above. It’s a journey of realizing, learning, and changing that I am striving for: to appreciate what I have and to live more simply.
Back to the main point of this post: since it is a fairly new concept in Korea, who other than the famous Lee Hyori (이효리) to lead the kinfolk lifestyle in Korea. She’s known to be one of the top fashionistas and she also has a big heart for animals especially dogs and advocates adoption of stray/abandoned pets. Her blog has a lot of photos of her beautiful home, nature, style, and just her overall lifestyle. And I just wanted to share a few of my personal favorites and create some casual lookbooks based on her style.
